Jeff and Debbie Kamps moved to the Hardy, Arkansas area in 1978 with the hopes of someday having a dulcimer shop. Jeff had learned to build Mountain Dulcimers in Illinois while laid off one winter from his job as an electrician. Since opening the Flat Creek Dulcimer Shop on April 1, 1988, we have made many changes. We have added Bowed Psalteries, Lap Harps and Hammered Dulcimers to the instruments we make and have outgrown our original workshop in the basement of the retail store. Full time luthier Dave Campbell does most of the building and Jeff does some set up and finish work and runs the retail shop. Debbie has gone back to get her Master's degree and is teaching English and History at the local high school.
Our goal from the beginning was to build quality, good sounding instruments at an affordable price and to make sure you have a good understanding of how to play them. We have not wavered from that philosophy. We invite you to come to Hardy, Arkansas and visit our store, our area, and our people. Camping, canoeing, trout fishing (walleye, bass and catfish, too), shopping, antiques, and much more. A great place to live and a great place to visit, the Hardy area has lots to offer. Make plans to spend some time here. Be sure to stop in and say “Hey”.
